Pam Baine Haunts Me Daily - 2 dogs, since 1998
I think of Pam Baine every single day when I see my 8 year old lab suffer in agony. This is my second Pam Baine Hunter's Gem labrador retriever. I got my first one in September 1998, at 5 weeks old, and she lived for 11 years, but she had Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and started to go blind at age 5. She was completely blind by age 8. When I told Pam, she lied to me and said that she just found out that one of the dogs in the lineage had PRA, and that an unscrupulous breeder in the area knowingly bred that dog to one of hers. She said 3 others from the litter went blind too. She said it wasn't her fault and that as soon as she found out she stopped breeding the dog. I loved that dog more than anything. In 2010, when I was ready to get a new puppy, I really wanted it to have some connection to my last one (obviously, without the PRA gene). I contacted Pam, and returned to her house in Norco to see her current labs. The modest, pool-less, yard I remembered from a dozen years earlier had been transformed with a beautiful pool and professional landscaping. She had many more dogs than before. If I had researched online, I would have seen some of these complaints against her, but for once I didn't do that. (Lesson learned.) I ended up buying another puppy from her. That dog has severe elbow dysplasia in BOTH elbows. She has had 3 different surgeries over the years (costing at least $4000 each time), years of physical therapy, years of multiple daily medications, and now she needs another surgery. She also has a condition that vets have called "Shaking Head Syndrome". It looks like a seizure. Thank God it doesn't seem to cause her pain or put her in danger of becoming injured. Reading all of these stories about people with similar problems with Pam's dogs makes me sick. How could this supposedly God-loving person have caused such EXPONENTIAL HARM to both the doomed animals she brought into this world and all of their owner families who have loved them and done everything in their power to relieve their suffering? All for what? A few hundred more dollars per puppy? So she could have that pool? How many millions of dollars have been spent trying to help these dogs? I had read that Pam's operation had been shut down due to so many law suits. I saw that her house was foreclosed on and that pool was filled in with dirt. I read that she was living in a trailer on her mother's property. I thought this was over. I cannot believe it is still happening. I pray every day that this woman gets what she deserves. I can't imagine a punishment that could possibly come close to the damage she has instilled. She should not be allowed to OWN an animal, much less breed them. She should be in jail for all of the pain she has caused, not just physically, but financially and psychologically. Please do NOT perpetuate her destruction. Even if you are lucky and escape the *** the rest of us have been through, you will still be contributing to this by supporting Pam financially. The photos attached are from her 2nd surgery in May 2015 and her third surgery in October 2016. It takes at least 6 weeks to even walk more than a few feet. No ball, no fun, no stairs. And never as good as new. Prognosis = deterioration for the rest of her life. Don't let this happen to you.

Sick Doggies
I bought a 3 year old frenchie from them. He is really stunning with strong body and big head! BUT sick. My frenchie got de-barked. No one mentioned anything when I was purchasing him. He has really bad scarring on his trachea from this surgery. On top of that he suffered from small nostrils and large soft palette. Yes of course this is quite common problem with this breed! But if the breeder is aware of this condition they shouldn't be breeding them. The story about why they were selling this dog 'at his age' didn't make sense, but it was a love at first sight and I really wanted him so I ignored all the red flags and went with their lies.. My Frenchie is in great hands now. After his surgery for his nostrils and soft palette his breathing improved but his scaring on his trachea is so bad that his doctor didn't want to touch it until it gets to the point that we don't have a choice. Pam is not answering my calls or texts... I own my dog for 4 months and I haven't received his AKC papers yet. Please learn from me and don't purchase dogs from unethical breeders like Pam. There are many more good breeders with healthy puppies.

Unhappy with Gems White Labs
I wanted to post our experience with Pamela Baine, Gems White Labs. We purchased a puppy from her last Spring. Pamela stated her dogs were AKC, OFA certified and had less than one percent problems with joint issues. Within a few months of having our puppy he began to limp and eventually was diagnosed with bilateral elbow dysplasia and back ankle osteochondritis dessicans (bad arthritis). He has required surgery for both front elbows and an injection with continued medical therapy for his back ankle. So far we have spent over $6700 in medical expenses. The most frustrating part has been from Pamela herself. We attempted to contact her multiple times to alert her of the issue to prevent continued breeding of these parents and future dogs with progressive arthritis and disability. WE HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HER ONCE IN RESPONSE. Secondary to our concern for future puppies and owners we submitted a claim in small claims court and won- but SHE NEVER SHOWED UP. We have yet to hear from her regarding any of these issues. We love our dog dearly but think it is unfair for her to continue to breed dogs with known genetic disabilities. We have filed formal complaints with the AKC and will be filing to have her reviewed by Animal Protective Services. After researching online there appears to be multiple stories of people with similar complaints regarding her as a breeder. I WOULD NOT PROMOTE HER BREEDING BUSINESS AND BUY PUPPIES FROM HER AS SHE IS BREEDING DOGS WITH KNOWN GENETIC DISABILITIES.

Please Beware
I purchased a puppy from Pam in the spring of 2011. After a month he was diagnosed with elbow dysplasia in both legs. Also giardia. It has cost us over $6,500.00. She promised a full refund. Calling Pam for 2 years resulted in a refund of only $400.00. When we went to her house to purchase a dog, she had many dogs and litters in her house, kitchen, back patio. And she claims she doesn't breed enough dogs to be considered a breeder??? I wish I would have posted this 2 years ago and maybe have prevented other consumers who have had this same problem from buying a dog from her. Pam, in my opinion, does not care about the dogs she breeds, only the money it makes her. It is sad she puts the mighty dollar above anything else. Shame on Pamela Baine!!

Huntersgem labs or Gem's White Labs Puppymill!!!!!!
Hello there, I am writing to confirm this breeder is a puppy mill, she breeds numerous dogs and has sick dogs with genetic problems. she ripped me off twice with stud service and gave me a dog with a botched surgery performed by Dr. Butchko! She like to throw her religion out there as a sales technique, I have been in here back yard and she has 50+ dogs. Run for the hills, her dog is not even an AKC champion, just an International one which means nothing! She carries Demodectic mange, as well as seizures in her lines. She even had a dog with 2 broken front legs that never rec vet care! Her address is 6615 Sandy Ln. Avoid her at all costs not good breeder would broker out their dogs like she does. Farm raised is another term for puppy mills! She is not licensed! Nor does she give legit paper work for her dogs. She is a broker, who have multiple other breeders consigning her dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fake, Fake, Fake!!!!! Uneducated P.O.S!!!!!!!!! She is ruining all breeds associated with her name, she has bred; LABS, CANE CORSO, BOSTON TERRIERS, FRENCH BULLDOGS, MALTESE, PUGS, ETC... Just to name a few. Does that sound like a private breeder? No! Commercial puppy mill? Yes!!!!! She is going t be reported to the ASPCA next! As well as the county humane society!!!!! Fraud!!!!!!!!!!!!

Verified Reviewer | Los Angeles, CaliforniaHunters Gem is dishonest. I bought a puppy, rec'd papers from dogs I had never heard of or seen.
Pam, owner of Hunter's Gem Labs in Riverside, is so dishonest. She will tell you what you want to hear before purchase, show you dogs who are not the parents. I received papers from her from another breeder and Pam would not provide a written health guarantee. She said I would get the correct papers and never did. I called AKC and there was no litter registered to her the day my pup was born. She has at least 30 labs plus puppies on her property when we were on a tour. She is very much like a puppy mill, don't buy a dog from her.You do not know what you are getting and I have personally corresponded with others who have bought her dogs who have had problems, like Steve. The minute you have an issue, you will never hear from her again.

Little paws of mine AKA LITTLE PAWS OF MINE

Little Paws of mine is Not the same business as Hunters Gem
Original review Apr 18, 2011
I would like to share my experience with HuntersGem Farms: On January 13, 2011, I drove from Texas to California to purchased a white female puppy from HuntersGem Farms, aka HuntersGem Labs in Riverside, California. This puppy was bought from HuntersGem with full registration at a price of $1800. On February 22, 2011 and March 4, 2011, Mange was diagnosed and confirmed by two separate veterinarian area clinics. (SEE PICTURES ABOVE) Before the medical condition appeared, I had the puppy's dewclaws removed; micro chipped her, registered her with AKC, registered with AKC-CAR for life, and has given all vaccinations to date. Since the mange diagnosis, I have provided medication and visits to the veterinarians for the two opinions at a cost of over $289.59 to date. On March 30, 2011, during our first phone conversation since the diagnosis, I was told I must "prove" the puppy is from HuntersGem On the day I notified the breeder of the mange, I offered to drive the puppy to California from Texas so their vet could examine the puppy, which they declined, saying they do not cover this hereditary illness. I was told that HuntersGem "doesn't cover mites of any kind because veterinarians couldn't determine which mite her puppies have"…??? . This puppy is absolutely BEAUTIFUL; such a sweetheart, and of course, we have fallen "head over heels" in love with her. Although, she will make a fabulous pet for someone, we cannot breed her and therefore cannot put her in the show ring; it will be extremely difficult to give her up. I am totally flabbergasted as to why they won't do something. This has been a total nightmare. This puppy has become a very expensive pet for me. I am incurring expenses each day. HuntersGem will not refund the difference between full and limited registration which is only $600.00, Hunters Gem Labs absolutely refuses to remedy this situation. All I wanted HuntersGem to do was to honor their warranty and replace the puppy, take the puppy back for a full refund, or refund the difference between the full and limited registration plus vet bills. I am completely astounded by this whole experience. I hope this post will encourage this breeder to reevaluate this situation. They have not. Only running from their responsibilities and changing the name of this breeder

Little Paws of Mine ROCKS!
I was told by Hunters Gem Labs on two occasions that Hunters Gem Labs was going by another name (Little Paws of Mine). This information named Little Paws as the same business and it is INCORRECT. This is not the same company. What I am trying to say is Little Paws of mine is not the same company so I wanted to post this to clarify. They are a very Good breeder and I regret the post was made by mistake. I am sorry Little Paws for this error. Hunters Gem Labs is the business that does not honor the warranty. Little Paws Is innocent!

PLEASE research the pedigree of ANY puppy you are considering purchasing. And think twice before getting one that has Hunter's Gem, Gem, or any derivative of those in its heritage. If I can prevent even one person from going through what I have now been through twice, it will be a blessing.
Do know this dog? Hunter's Gem White Lace ( YLW ) Hips: OFA38D Elbows: OFEL38 Do you know what that hip score means?
OFA said at 38 months of age this dog has hip dysplasia! "D" for Dyplasia and was still bred!
Go ahead Pamela Baines - please argue this one? It's pulbic information.
So glad I found this site. ALMOST bought a Lab puppy from Pam.
No way now. Sorry for your horrible experience with this breeder.
FYI She is still breeding lab. 2/12/2018
Thank God!! You saved yourself so much pain and money.
She still breeds French Bulldogs now...
Lies from people with nothing better to do. Hunters Gem white lace is OFA good elbows normal you can contact the orthopedic foundation for animals for verification! And yes I have been retired for a long time!
I have not lied about anything - YOU HAVE! You LIED to us that we were getting soundly bred dogs!
And your precious God will punish you for the MISERY you have brought to so many dogs and people - all for money. You are disgusting. I am now in Idaho for a THIRD time due to an infection in my dog's elbow and could have LOST my dog!! This particular round has cost me ANOTHER $10k and counting - she may need to have further surgery TODAY, depending on the culture results.
I would have gladly PAID you more money to STOP BREEDING DOGS, than all the money I have spent, not just on medical bills, but on travel and accommodations trying to RELIEVE some of the PHYSICAL PAIN that you directly inflicted on my dog.
SHAME ON YOU, PAM BAINE!!! I hope your children know what a SATANIC MONSTER you are.
Pam, are you being serious?!?!? You're justifying breeding a dog with KNOWN hip dysplasia (according to the OFA reports) because the elbows were good?
Sorry to break it to you but OFA only rates the elbows as "normal" not good, excellent, poor, etc... Gem's White Lace has an OFA report of D for hips. That is enough to remove that dog from your breeding program PERIOD. You are ignorant, and if you supposedly retired then why do you even care or go on these sites to try and clear your name?
The negative reviews far outweigh the positive ones. Like I've said many times before, just stop and go away. You've done a disservice to the dog community (and not only the Labrador community). Why would anyone go out of their way to make up false accusations?
These families are looking for restitution.
A Class Action Lawsuit should be filed against you. You should be in jail.
